Hyfforddwyd Iwan Davies yn ysgol Gerddoriaeth a Drama y Guildhall ac yn y Stiwdio Opera Genedlaethol yn Llundain, lle bu ynghlwm wrth nifer o berfformiadau mewn cydweithrediad ag Opera North, Scottish Opera, a Chwmni Opera Cenedlaethol Cymru. Fe fu’n arweinydd staff yn y Salzburger Landestheater, lle arweiniodd y Mozarteum Orchester mewn perfformiadau o La Gazzetta (Rossini), The Trial (Glass), Wiener Blut (Strauss), a My Fair Lady. Fe yw Pennaeth Cerdd Gŵyl Ryngwladol Buxton, lle mae wedi arwain cynyrchiadau o Cendrillion (Viardot), Viva la Diva (Donizetti), The Land of Might-Have-Been (Novello) a La tragédie de Carmen. Bu’n arwain La bohème a The Golden Cockerel (Rimksy-Korsakov) i English Touring Opera. I Music Theatre Wales fe arweiniodd Bwystfilod Aflan, a The Necklace i The Belfast Ensemble, y ddau gan Conor Mitchell. I OPRA Cymru, mae wedi arwain premier byd opera Gareth Glyn, Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd, Fidelio, Così fan tutte, ac ail opera Glyn, Un Nos Ola Leuad, gyda cherddorfa WNO, sy’n cael ei throi’n ffilm. Fel cefnogwr brwd o gerddoriaeth Gymreig, mae wedi comisiynu a pherfformio gweithiau newydd gan Claire Victoria Roberts, Pwyll ap Siôn, Gareth Olubunmi Hughes, David Roche, Sarah-Lianne Lewis a Mared Emlyn. Yn y dyfodol, bydd yn arwain Trouble in Tahiti a La Voix Humaine yn Buxton a gwaith newydd gyda Music Theatre Wales. Fe yw Cyfarwyddwr Cerdd Prifysgol Aberystwyth, a Chyfarwyddwr Artistig Musicfest Aberystwyth.

Iwan Davies trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio in London, where he participated in a variety of performances in collaboration with Opera North, Scottish Opera and Welsh National Opera. He was a staff conductor at the Salzburger Landestheater, where he conducted the Mozarteum Orchestra in performances of La Gazzetta (Rossini), The Trial (Glass), Wiener Blut (Strauss), and My Fair Lady. He is Head of Music at the Buxton International Festival, where he has conducted productions of Cendrillion (Viardot), Viva la Diva (Donizetti), The Land of Might-Have-Been (Novello) and La tragédie de Carmen. For English Touring Opera, he conducted La bohème and The Golden Cockerel (Rimksy-Korsakov). For Music Theatre Wales he conducted Bwystfilod Aflan and for The Belfast Ensemble The Necklace, both by Conor Mitchell. For OPRA Cymru, he conducted the world premiere of Gareth Glyn’s Welsh-language opera Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd, Fidelio, Così fan tutte, and Glyn’s second opera Un Nos Ola Leuad, with the orchestra of Welsh National Opera, which is currently being made into a film. A champion of Welsh music, he has commissioned and performed  new works from Claire Victoria Roberts, Pwyll ap Siôn, Gareth Olubunmi Hughes, David Roche, Sarah-Lianne Lewis and Mared Emlyn. Future plans include conducting Trouble in Tahiti and La Voix Humaine at Buxton and a new work with Music Theatre Wales. He is Director of Music at Aberystwyth University and Artistic Director of Aberystwyth Musicfest.
